Professors Vitasato and Ayoauni, the Japanese experts, Dr. Yersut, the French expert, also Dr.James Catlie,M.D.,then of Hong Kong,now,I believe, of London,can, and I am sure will be willing, to testify to the work, and how I performed it. One and all of them warned me most particularly abou being careful of my eyes, but who could keep the millions of flies away? I only thank God I can see at all,little as it is, after what I went through
then.

The fact of my being invalided out of the service means a great deal to me, as I could have served on for fifteen years longer, which would have meant an additional 1/5 per day to my small pension.
I enclose also a certificate from Dr.Eccles, of this town, who has examined my sight, and knew of my services in China,having been in Hong Kong at the time I was in charge of the Plague Hospitals.
